There are plenty of blogs and contexts that allude to a Human-centered, Networked Organization and many value network participants have inquired about what the “Networked Organizational” structure would look like in modern terms, i.e. within the Intelligence Age.
So, here is an example - in all its glory and detail. The last part is by design and quite frankly, this is just a representation or model and therefore simply does not have everything depicted. It also contains elements - some specific to software vendors - that are more agnostic and thus replaceable by alternative solutions and vendors.
Each part of the image below alludes to or contains content from other blog posts and architectural components.
The "Reimagining" part is the critical part, largely from a strategic perspective - positioning the informal network to become a new strategic asset, rather than just how the work gets done.
A Legacy Organization would depict their hierarchical, authoritarian-based Org Chart where the network of nodes and connections are located, continuing to rely on a siloed organizing principle. The network aspect is really the only requirement of the entire concept, nodes will change, technology will evolve even faster, and the Future of Work aspect will emerge even quicker as each AI advancement continues to disrupt our current ways of working.
Enough for now, welcome to the Post-Knowledge Work Era and good luck on your journey to becoming not only a Human-centered, Networked Organization but also eventually reaching the disposition of an Exponential Organization, see OpenExO.com for more details. In future articles, I will be outlining each element or group of elements in the overall architecture as well as going deeper into contextualizing the specifics and how they relate to the various types of businesses and organizations in existence today. In other words, not every organization is the same but we can categorize them and their characteristics, like those that make or distribute physical products vs those that are software-only businesses.
